You Are Blessed and not Cursed

"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree"." (Galatians 3:13).

"He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit." (Galatians 3:14).

When Jesus hung on that tree thousands of years ago, He became sin and took our curses upon Himself.

But He did it so that the blessing of the LORD given to Abraham might come to us through Him.

Initially, this blessing, though essentially spiritual, was transmitted by natural descent, and so would not have been available to non-biological descendants of Abraham.

But in His great wisdom and mercy, God created a new channel for the transmission of this blessing – faith in Jesus Christ, His Son.

So now, if you have believed in Jesus Christ, you have this blessing; you are blessed and not cursed.

Manifestations of the Blessing

The blessing of the LORD is not a thing – like money, houses, lands, or any other material property for that matter. The blessing of the LORD is a Person. As a matter of fact, the blessing of the LORD is the Spirit of God. Notice how the Apostle Paul ties this together – that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Clearly, the Apostle was making reference to the Spirit of God here.

This blessing of the Lord is essentially spiritual; it is the active operation of God’s Spirit within, an inner divine force, that enables one to flourish regardless of the circumstances.

When this blessing is at work in a person, a family, or even a nation, there are over 7000 specific manifestations that accompany that work. Let us look at three of them:

  1. The blessing of the LORD brings wealth.
  2. The blessing of the LORD makes you invincible.
  3. The blessing of the LORD makes you healthy.

The blessing of the LORD brings wealth

"The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it." (Proverbs 10:22).

Notice here that wealth is not the blessing of the LORD. Rather, the blessing of the LORD brings wealth. So, wealth is something distinct from the blessing of the LORD. But what that verse means is that when the blessing of the LORD is at work in you, it brings wealth without sorrows.

We see this illustrated in the life of Isaac, Abraham’s son in the book of Genesis 26.

At that time, there was famine everywhere, economic meltdown, financial difficulties, and people were fleeing to Egypt. But in obedience to God’s word, and on the basis of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac stayed back in Gerar and in that same year, and in that same land, he planted crops and reaped a hundred folds…because the LORD blessed Him.

The blessing of the LORD was at work!

The same blessing was at work in the life of Joseph.

"From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the LORD blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field." (Genesis 39:5).

So now, dear child of God who has believed in Jesus Christ, you have this blessing; you are blessed and not cursed.

Because you are blessed and not cursed, the LORD shall cause the works of your hands to prosper, and make your plans succeed.

The blessing of the LORD makes you invincible

"No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me", declares the LORD." (Isaiah 54:17).

No weapon; absolutely no weapon. It doesn’t matter at all who forged it, or where; it just won’t prevail, because you are blessed.

In the book of Numbers 23, king Balak of the ancient nation of Moab had hired a sorcerer to come and place a curse on Israel. He did this because he was scared of the power and influence of the new nation. To his dismay, however, the magician could not invoke any curses, instead he ended up blessing Israel again and again!

I have received a command to bless; he has blessed, and I cannot change it.
No misfortune is seen in Jacob, no misery observed in Israel.
The LORD their God is with them; the shout of the King is among them.
God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox.
There is no sorcery against Jacob, no divination against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and of Israel, ‘See what God has done!’ –
Numbers 23:20-23

Because of the blessing of the LORD, the magic of Balaam couldn’t prevail against Israel!

Because of the blessing.

The blessing of the LORD will protect you from all harm.

The blessing of the LORD makes you healthy

"He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes." (Psalm 105:37).

Think about this for a moment — Over two million people were travelling through a very harsh desert, and none was ill!

That’s what the blessing of the LORD can do: He makes you healthy in spite of your biological ancestry.

The blessing of the LORD places you beyond the power of environmental diseases and plagues.

"They will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well"." (Mark 16:18).

The blessing of the LORD is your most powerful and perfect spiritual immunity against any form of diseases known and unknown to man. I challenge you to embrace this blessing in all of its fullness and begin to enjoy the abundant life that God has designed for you.

Yes, you are blessed and not cursed.
